Answering the Call of the Wild
How do we reconnect our sacred within to the sacred without, in nature? Practical ways of nurturing our souls through the natural world will be explored in this 2-hour workshop.
First hour: We will use participants’ personal stories, discussion, poetry and food (just a couple bites) to explore ways to reconnect our deepest selves to the sacred in nature.
Second Hour: We will gather in the grove in the woods behind the Center to start our second hour. Be prepared to wander, or “saunter” through the woods, off path (you might want boots).
The only cost will be to open your heart and become vulnerable to the call of the wild.
“I don't like either the word [hike] or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not 'hike!' Do you know the origin of that word saunter? It's a beautiful word. Away back in the middle ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going they would reply, 'A la sainte terre', 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them.” - John Muir
Workshop leader and eco-spirituality guide, Barbara Pott, is completing her two year study with the Seminary of the Wild Earth, holds a B.S. in botany and a Master of Pastoral Studies. With her husband she is transforming their quarter-acre city lot into a Michigan native habitat.
